Hello! I'm Lucinda, the proud designer and founder of Hi Vis Rashies. As a mum, I was always concerned about the lack of bright-coloured swimwear available for children in department stores. Time and time again, I found myself frustrated with the limited options—most swimwear came in dull shades of blue, black, browns and pastels, which can be hard to see in the water. Another feature that was often missing is a zipper, which allows for easy removal, especially when children are left to fend for themselves at school swimming lessons. Teachers frequently find themselves helping children remove tight-necked rashies from their heads, which can be a real hassle.

This concern grew even more significant when I learned about the Royal Life Saving Society in Australia’s call for children to wear high-visibility swimwear. Schools have also started asking for children to wear high-visibility swimwear to compulsory school swimming lessons, where large groups of children are together in the water and the tutor may not realise a child is at the bottom of the pool. Their research shows that bright colours make it easier to spot children under the water, potentially saving lives. Blue, black, brown and pastel-coloured swimwear simply doesn't stand out enough, and this can be a critical factor in preventing drownings.

In addition to being a mum, I'm also a Registered Nurse. Throughout my career, I have witnessed far too often the devastating impact that drowning can have on families. Every time a child is not seen in the water quickly enough, the consequences can be tragic. The heartache that families endure after losing a child to drowning is immeasurable, and I couldn't stand by without trying to make a difference.

This is why I decided to create Hi Vis Rashies. These bright, eye-catching rashies are designed to ensure that children are easily seen in and around water, enhancing their safety during water activities, whilst offering SPF 50+ protection. Too many children drown in Australia every year, and if just one life can be saved by making children more visible in the water, it's worth every effort.
